4.6.7 General

a) As part of company policy to conserve energy where possible, shipboard staff shall practically demonstrate their actions with data and records, which shall be monitored in the office.

b) Conservation of energy can be carried out by the following ways, but not limited to:

  • (i) By good planning and coordinating operations involving high energy consumption between deck & engine departments, such as:                     O Mooring operation
                        O Opening / closing of ramps/ holds
                        O Running of Blowers
                        O Starting and stopping of cargo/ ballast pumps
                        O Running of Inert Gas Plant
  • (ii) By preventing idle running of heavy machineries such as:
                          O Generators
                          O Mooring winches
                          O Cargo pumps
                          O Inert Gas plant
                          O Blowers
                          O Galley equipment
  • (iii) By running the ship’s AC plant at optimum temperature
  • (iv) By switching ON & OFF deck lightings judiciously
  • (v) By recording, monitoring, and comparing the fuel consumptions of machineries against running hours where possible.

c) Safety of operations and the ship shall never be compromised while complying with the above instructions & guidance.

4.6.7.1 Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan and EEDI

Refer to SEEMP manual for ship-specific energy conservation procedures which contain all the requirements of the revised MARPOL Annex VI as per IMO Res. MEPC 203(62), 212(63), and 214(63), and was enforced starting 1st January 2013. These procedures were provided to all fleet vessels. All shipboard staff must adhere to all the required record-keeping and reporting as required.
